Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time

I saw this painting by Bronzino today. It is only when I look at the print here and recall standing and gazing at the actual painting that I realise how vast a difference there is between copies and the real work.

This painting tells a fascinating story. Read about it here and here.

  1. If you’re interested, Bronzino’s painting is the subject of my historical novel “Cupid and the Silent Goddess”, which imagines how the painting might have been created in Florence in 1544-5.
