The shortlist is out. That Joseph O Neil’s Netherland is not on it at all must come as a shock to a lot of people. It is not available in my city but I have been itching to get my hands on this book. Even the formidable Michiko Kakatuni has spoken well of it, and it was generally known to be the favourite for this year’s prize.
Of the books that I have actually read from the list, I am shocked that The White Tiger has been chosen over A Case of Exploding Mangoes.
